DENVER (BaseballStL) – He is still far away from Joe DiMaggio’s record 56-game hitting streak, but David Freese extended his career-best hitting streak to eleven games with a solo home run on Tuesday.
Freese smacked a deep solo home run (approximately 464 feet) to centerfield with two outs in the seventh inning to give the Cardinals a four-run cushion. The home run was No. 15 for Freese, who became the fifth Cardinals player this season with at least 15 home runs. Only seven other teams in Cardinals history have had five or more players with at least 15 home runs.
Freese finished the game 2-for-5 and is 20-for-37 (.541) with two home runs during the streak.
Prior to Tuesday’s game, he led the league with a .463 (31-for-67) batting average in the month of July.
