Wrong-way driver causes collision in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV)—The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a collision involving a wrong-way driver late Tuesday night.

At 10:30 p.m., The Missouri Highway Patrol says Nicholas Palos, 30, was driving south on the northbound lanes of Highway 67 near Buck Creek Road when he slammed into Benjamin Schaefer, 24, who was traveling north on 67.

According to reports, Schaefer attempted to avoid a head-on collision by changing lanes. Palos struck the driver’s side of Schaefer’s vehicle.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

No word on why Palos was driving the wrong way before the wreck.

The investigation is ongoing.
