(KMOV) -- The Rams have signed Chris Long to an extension that will keep him in blue and gold through 2016. And Kevin Demoff's next mission is to sign James Laurinaitis to a similar extension. More signs that better times are just ahead. Not just from a Rams standpoint.
Look, identifying Long and Laurinaitis as cornerstone players you need is not rocket science. But getting two guys who figured to be big hits on the free agent market to bypass that and sign on for more with a team that has won just 15 games in five seasons is significant.
The Rams veterans don't just like Fisher. They love playing for him. Already. I'm told Laurinaitis especially loves the hire. Why else would he and an ascending star like Long pass on free agency to return to a franchise that has been God-awful in recent years? They believe things are about to change dramatically.
I can't wait to see 2012 unfold. We get our first small peek into the future two weeks from today when the Rams play at Indy.
