MoDOT to close section of I-64/Highway 40 for road work

ST. LOUIS ( -- MoDOT announced parts of Interstate 64/Highway 40 will be shut down for road work this weekend, and several ramps will remain closed during the work week.

All but one lane of westbound Highway 40 near downtown will remain closed through 6 p.m. Saturday. MoDOT will then close an entire section of westbound Highway 40 until noon on Sunday.

MoDOT officials said drivers should look for alternative routes to access I-64 from the city this weekend, including the Pine Street, Jefferson Avenue or Market/Compton Interchange.

Motorists heading into downtown Monday morning may also want to review their commute, as MoDOT will close several ramps on westbound I-64 between Broadway and 21st Street after this weekend’s closure.

When westbound I-64 opens Sunday afternoon, traffic will be driving on the two left lanes, while the right lane will be closed. Because the right lane will be closed, the ramps from 10th Street and 14th Street will be closed around the clock, as will the ramp from Broadway.

In addition, westbound traffic will only be able to use the 9th Street exit from westbound I-64. The ramp from westbound I-64 to 21st/Market will only be open between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. weekdays.

Officials said road work on I-64/Highway 40 had to be delayed because of extreme heat. Repairs should be finished by September 1, according to MoDOT.
