MULBERRY GROVE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Thursday night, a Mulberry Grove woman and two children were killed when the vehicle they were riding in was rear ended by a semi-truck after they stopped to avoid a deer.
According to reports, the accident happened in the eastbound lanes on Interstate 70, just west of Greenville, Illinois around 8:50 p.m.
A witness told police that Suzette Lee, 41, slowed when a deer crossed the highway. Then, when a second deer followed, Lee came to a complete stop on the roadway.
Behind Lee was a semi-truck, driven by Dennis Nagle, 48, from Union, Missouri. Nagle was unable to stop in time and hit the back of Lee’s vehicle.
Lee was pronounced dead at the scene as well has her two young passengers; Lillian Lee, 8, and Vivian Lee, 6.
Nagle suffered minor injuries.
