ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A police officer in St. Louis was taken to an area hospital after his police cruiser was hit by a suspected drunk driver in north St. Louis Thursday morning.
Police officials said the wreck happened at the intersection of Marcus and St. Louis avenues around 2:15 a.m.
Police said the officer was on assignment traveling south on Marcus when he came to a stop at St. Louis Avenue.
Authorities said he began to enter the intersection and was struck on the passenger side by a driver who ran a stop sign.
The officer’s vehicle went airborne, struck a telephone pole and flipped on its side.
The officer was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital, where he was treated for a laceration to his head. He was later released.
The suspect was also taken to a local hospital for treatment for unknown injuries. The suspect refused to submit to a breath or blood test.
He was later arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
