ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Reports say the man accused of killing 12 people in a movie theater in Colorado bought his ammunition from a company that advertises a St. Louis address.

The website for brags about offering the best deals to serious shooters for bulk ammunition.

It’s believed James Holmes ordered thousands of rounds from the site.

News 4 looked into the reports and discovered the company lists its address to a St. Louis post office box, which is located inside the large downtown post office in Market Street.

But it turns out there was no actual warehouse in Missouri. In fact, Internet chatter says the company’s warehouse is actually located in Ohio.

One explanation as to why a company in Ohio would have a St. Louis post office box has to do with sales tax.  Sources say since the company lists its address in St. Louis, it may be able to avoid charging sales tax under Ohio’s interstate sales tax laws to its customers around the country.

News 4 tried calling and emailing the company to get answers, but there was no response.

Investigators in Colorado reportedly found mailing labels from in the dumpster at Holmes’ apartment.

It’s believed he bought over 6,000 rounds of ammunition over the internet, a staggering amount by anyone’s standards.

Postal inspectors in St. Louis say they have not been contacted by the FBI and it’s doubtful they will

It appears the company hasn’t done anything improper by having a post office box in St. Louis and doing business in another state.
