Attorney: Peterson confident as trial set to begin

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- Drew Peterson's lawyer says his client is nervous but confident as he heads to court to stand trial in the death of his third wife.

Attorney Joel Brodsky spoke to reporters outside the Joliet courthouse where jury selection gets under way Monday.

Brodsky reiterated that Kathleen Savio's 2004 drowning death in her bathtub was nothing more than an accident. And he suggested that Peterson's long career in law enforcement will help attorneys during jury selection, saying the ex-cop knows Will County and the kind of people who live there.

Prosecutors didn't speak to reporters as they entered the courthouse Monday.

Peterson was charged with first-degree murder in Savio's death after the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson. He's never been charged but remains a suspect in that disappearance.
