JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – On Friday, Gov. Jay Nixon named a retired St. Louis County Police Sergeant to replace a member of the Ferguson Commission.

Sgt. Byron Watson will replace Bethany Johnson-Javois on the 16 person committee. Johnson-Javois was named the Commission’s managing director by co-chairs Rev. Starsky Wilson and Rich McClure.

Watson grew up in North City and currently lives in Florissant. He served with the St. Louis County Police Department from 1981 to 2008 and retired at the rank of sergeant. Watson is currently an officer with the St. Louis Community College campus police.  

The commission is responsible for issuing a report with police recommendations by Sept. 15.

The Ferguson Commission has had three public meetings since Nov. 18, when the members of the committee were announced
