ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Police responded to the scene of quadruple shooting near a downtown St. Louis church Wednesday, after multiple shots were fired at the intersection of Olive Street and 17th Street.

The scene is just blocks from St. Louis Police headquarters and took place outside a church and a crowded apartment complex.

The shooting happened just after 5 p.m., and as of 6 p.m. police said one victim, Christopher Johnson, 20, was killed. The three other victims are in critical condition.

Johnson was found lying in the street in the 200 block of N. 17th Street with a gunshot wound sustained to his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A pastor at the church says he's hurt to hear someone died right outside a place of worship.

"I wish my reaction was shock," the pastor said. "It is sadness that we are so deeply broken and it's not just in St. Louis, it's everywhere. We have really deep problems."

An investigation revealed that a four door gray vehicle stopped in the parking lot in the 1600 block of Olive and two black male suspects exited the vehicle. Those suspects then opened fire on the victims. The vehicle fled the scene traveling north on 16th Street until out of sight.

Officers have not released motive for the shooting and an investigation is ongoing.
