ST. LOUIS (KMOV)-- Police have identified and arrested the suspect in the murder of 35 year-old Jhonny Pavon.

Police say Melkis Oreyana, 25, shot Pavon Sunday morning during an argument while in the back seat of a car.

Oreyana then held a third person in the car at gunpoint and forced them to drive to the 4000 block of De Tonty, in the Shaw neighborhood, where Pavon's body was dumped.

"I was shocked. The neighborhood is safe. I come and go all hours of the night and never felt unsafe," said Sherry Pesickh, a resident in the area. "Firemen live in the area. I walk my dog so I have no idea how that could have happened."

Just hours after the body was discovered a St. Louis Police SWAT team surrounded a house on Iowa St. in south St. Louis where they believed Oreyana could be found.

Dozens of officers surrounded the house and tear gas was dispersed to force the suspect out, but Oreyana was not at the residence.

"It is a way to get a peaceful surrender and a negotiation prior to doing armed entry," says Lt. Janice Bockstruck of the St. Louis Police Department.

Oreyana was found and arrest in Louisa, Kentucky by state police, about 200 miles east of Louisville.
