PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -- The Pickens County, South Carolina Sheriff's Office said a grandmother has been arrested in the death of an infant after the drug oxycodone was found in the child's sippy cup.
Deputies said on Oct. 17 the sheriff's office and the coroner's office initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 14-month-old toddler.
Deputies said the child was found not breathing at a home on Swiss Entrance in Pickens.
The child was transported to the emergency room where he was pronounced dead, deputies said.
The sheriff's office said forensic testing determined that the child had a lethal dose of oxycodone in his system. Deputies said the drug was also found in the sippy cup provided to the child by his grandmother, who was the sole caretaker of the child on the day he died.
The grandmother, Angela Denise Brewer, 43, of Pickens, was arrested on Thursday, according to Chief Deputy Creed Hashe.
The arrest warrant stated she has been charged with murder/homicide by child abuse.
The warrant said the child had 2700 ng/mL of the drug in his system.
Coroner Kandy Kelley identified the child as Brentley Kolbin Lane Lusk.
Kelley said Lusk died of acute Oxycodone toxicity.
