Schools out thousands of dollars after local planning business shuts down

Posted: Updated:

( – Schools, groups, libraries and churches are out thousands of dollars after Incredible Events, a planning business, filed for bankruptcy and shut down.

The Mehville High School Mother’s Club was one of the groups that lost money because of the bankruptcy. The group was raising money for an after prom party for Mehlville High School seniors. It had been raising the funds since the students were freshmen.  The club paid nearly $2,000 to Incredible Events.

“We thought we could count on them,” said Lori Coco with the Mehlville High School Mothers’ Club.

Four weeks after putting down the deposit, Incredible Events filed for bankruptcy.

Nine other schools are owed money by the company along with the cities of Wentzville and Sunset Hills. A public library in Jerseyville, Illinois paid $425 for a children’s Halloween festival that Incredible Events never put on.

News 4 attempted to contact Incredible Events and its attorney, but never received a response. A former employee said he did not know the company was closing when contracts were signed in the fall. He told News 4 he and other employees showed up to work one day in October and learned they were out of work.

Mehlville said it will try to put on the after prom party for its seniors.
