ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Thousands of power outages were reported following an equipment malfunction in St. Louis late Wednesday night.
A spokesman for Ameren told News 4 the malfunction caused an underground fire at a manhole on Broadway and Salisbury around 11:00 p.m.
At one point 7,000 outages were reported. More than 4,000 were still without power as of 6:00 a.m.
Due to the outages, students at Dunbar Elementary School and Carver Elementary School were routed to Columbia Elementary School for the school day.
The district later said power was restored to both Dunbar and Carver. Both schools will return to their regular schedules Friday.
