FERGUSON (KMOV.com)- A Lindenwood University professor is hoping to help rebuild Ferguson businesses with a hashtag.
Lindenwood professor Rachel Douchant started up an effort on the center of liberty and ethics Facebook page as an effort to bring positivity back to the Ferguson area.
"So I wanted to start the social media campaign to get people coming back to Ferguson and to make sure people know it's perfectly safe, nice and quiet," says Douchant. "In the media it can seem like it's total chaos and it's just not true."
The effort promotes people to take pictiures and post on social media with the hashtag "Ferguson Favorites" as they dine and shop in Ferguson.
Douchant is hoping to spark business for those like Ferguson restaurant El Palenque. Insurance won't cover the cost of broken windows at El Palenque, which celebrated its ninth anniversary Tuesday, but things are looking up according to Manager Alie Flores.
" Business lately has been amazing," says Flores. "We have had an outpouring of support from people all over St. Louis."
The restaurant is still waiting on an application for aid from North County Incorporated''s grants to businesses hurt by the unrest.
Flores hopes the uptick in customers will continue thanks to Douchant's efforts.
