Sergeant surprises daughters at school assembly

HAZELWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Two elementary school students received an early Christmas present Tuesday when their soldier father surprised them at school.

Sergeant First Class Brian Banks surprised his two daughters, 3rd grader Erin Banks and 4th grader Bryann Banks, during an assembly at Jamestown Elementary in the Hazelwood School District.

"Oh, it went way better than I thought," said Sergeant Banks of the surprise. "I imagined that once my kids saw me, that they would run up [to me], but they were a little shy. So that took me by surprise."

While Sergeant Banks arrived in St. Louis Monday night, he stayed in a hotel his first night back home to keep his visit a secret so he could surprise his daughters at school. Sergeant Banks's wife Janelle was with her husband when he surprised their daughters.

Sergeant Banks is currently stationed in California and has been serving in the United States Army for 25 years.
