COLUMBIA, Mo. (Mizzou Football App)- Junior defensive end Shane Ray was named Tuesday as a second-team AP All-American.
Ray's selection makes it the second consecutive year that a Tiger's defensive end has been named to an AP All-American Team. In 2013, defensive end Michael Sam was honored as an Associated Press first-team All-American.
Ray led the SEC in sacks (14.0) and total tackles for loss (21.0) in 2014 and set the single season record for sacks in a season at Mizzou. Ray also tanks third nationally in both total sacks and tackles for loss.
Ray was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and has been named a Walter Camp first team All-American and Scout.com first team All-American.
Because he was not named as a first team AP All-American Ray will not follow Sam as a unanimous All-American, an honor that would have made him the third Tiger in school history to do so.
