(KMOV.com) -- Missouri defensive coordinator Dave Steckel is leaving the Tigers to become head football coach at Missouri State University, according to a report in the Springfield News Ledger.
Steckel has been an assistant under Gary Pinkel for 14 years, the last six as defensive coordinator. He was a finalist for the Broyles award that goes to the nation’s top assistant coach after guiding the Tigers to one of their best defensive seasons under Pinkel.
Steckel will replace Terry Allen at Missouri State. Allen’s contract was not renewed after going 4-and-8 this season with the Bears. A news conference has been called for 5pm Sunday in Springfield to announce the hiring of Steckel.
