(KMOV.com) – In order to cut down on drivers running red lights, Granite City police have posted videos on Facebook of incidents where drivers have run red lights in near miss crashes.
Police are trying to highlight the intersection of Madison and 27th Avenue, which they said has been a problem intersection. The traffic light contains the only red light camera in Granite City because of the number of drivers who have run red lights there.
The camera recently captured two close calls. In the first incident, someone is with a dog is crossing the street when a truck suddenly drives up and has to swerve to miss the pedestrian and the dog.
Police blame the problem on drivers who are looking at their phones or texting. They also said the public shaming has cut down on such incidents.
