ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV) -- St. Charles County first responders are filling up the ambulance.
For the fifth year running, first responders are teaming up with retirees to help the hungry. Paramedics from the St. Charles County Ambulance District are collecting food from retirement communities. Last year, they collected more than 2,000 pounds of food for Operation Food Search.
"The residents in these communities just do a phenomenal job," said Kyle Gaines of the St. Charles County Ambulance District. "They really want to help the hungry this holiday season."
This year there was even a twist, with each of the eight retirement communities challenged to collect a special item in high demand for food pantries.
