HOUSTON — A 13-year-old girl who was home with her little brother used a butcher knife to scare a robbery away from their northeast Houston home, according to Houston police.
Crime Stoppers released a composite sketch of the suspect on Thursday because he’s still on the loose.
The girl said a man knocked on their front door in the 3500 block of Vintage around 8:35 a.m. on October 6. When they didn’t answer, he went to the back door and knocked again, then tried to kick it down.
When that didn’t work, the suspect went back to the front and forced the door open, according to police.
The frightened girl ran and grabbed a butcher knife to protect her and her siblings. When the suspect grabbed her by the arm, she raised it in defense.
The suspect gave up and fled the scene on foot.
Police said he ran northbound on West Huntington, crossed a bridge over the bayou and continued eastbound.
A neighbor, Effie Christian, watched as the terrified girl ran past her house.
“I came to my door and she was running down the street to the neighbor she know, her and the two little kids,” she said. “She was brave and I wish she’d a stabbed him, sure do.”
The suspect is said to be in his 20s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and has a thin build.
