ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) – The St. Louis Cardinals will send Game 1 starter Lance Lynn back to the mound for Game 5 of the National League Championship Series on Friday.
Lynn drew a no-decision in a 6-4 victory in San Francisco on Sunday to give the Cardinals a 1-0 series lead. He will now have the chance to clinch a trip to the World Series on Friday.
It wasn’t a sharp outing for Lynn, who left in the fourth inning of a 6-4 game on Sunday. Lynn was yanked after allowing four runs, five hits and two walks in 3.2 innings pitched. The Cardinals were able to survive the poor start with help of an equally poor performance by Giants starter Madison Bumgarner, who allowed six runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings.
The Giants will send lefthander Barry Zito to the mound for the first time this series. Zito allowed two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings pitched in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Reds.
It wasn’t an effective start by any means for Zito, who walked four batters in the game, but the Giants were saved by a rough outing from Reds starter Mike Leake, who allowed five runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
