ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) -- Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran is out of the lineup for Game 4 of the National League Championship Series due to a knee strain, manager Mike Matheny announced on Thursday.
Beltran injured his knee when he stepped on first base after hitting into a double play in the first inning of Game 3 on Wednesday.
The outfielder is listed as day-to-day, but will be available to pinch hit in Game 4.
Matt Carpenter, who replaced Beltran in Game 3, hit a decisive two-run home run to give the Cardinals the lead which also proved to be the difference in the final score, a 3-1 win over the Giants to take a 2-1 series lead.
Carpenter will bat second in the lineup and play first base while Allen Craig will move to right field for Game 4.
This postseason, Beltran is hitting .400 with three home runs and six RBI in nine games.
