ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Firefighters were forced to evacuate a building that caught fire in south St. Louis Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the fire started inside a home in the 5500 block of Michigan Avenue around 10 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, found heavy flames and smoke coming from all angles of the home.
Firefighters battling the blaze were told to evacuate the building after the structure became compromised.
St. Louis Fire Captain Dan Sutter said one firefighter was transported to a St. Louis-area hospital as a precaution after sustaining a minor injury. He was expected to be released Wednesday evening.
Authorities said the house was unoccupied, but sustained substantial damage and was inhabitable.
