ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – Police have identified a woman whose body was found dumped in a trash bin in south St. Louis on Friday.

Police said Ashley Moorhead, 26, died of strangulation.

A young couple told News 4 they were at their home near the 3500 block of California on Friday when they spotted a man in the alley with their trash can.

The male witness confronted the suspect and told him to put their trash bin back.

The man went back inside his home. The woman who lived with him then spotted the suspect walking away with the bin.

The witness told News 4 he went outside and caught up with the suspect, who started acting suspicious while hiding the trash can behind his back.

According to the couple, while they began calling police, the suspect fled south through the alley and west on Miami.

The couple said that’s when they looked into the trash can and discovered Moorhead’s body.

The couple told News 4 the suspect was a black man in his mid-30s. They said he was about 5-foot-8 with a medium build and was wearing a black short-sleeve shirt and black and white checkered “chef pants.” He also had a cauliflower right ear.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (866) 371-8477.
