The 2012 NLCS features two teams with a flair for the dramatic and a never-say-die attitude. The Cardinals are came back in historic fashion on Friday night as they overcame a six-run deficit to beat the Washington Nationals in Game 5 of the NLDS. The Giants earned their trip to the series by winning three games on the road to get past the Cincinnati Reds.

It didn’t take long for the Cardinals' bats to get to work. In the top of the second inning , Yadier Molina singled to left followed by a laser shot over the left field wall by David Freese on a full count to put the Cardinals up 2-0.

In the fourth the Cardinals seven and eight combination of Daniel Descalso and Peter Kozma went to work with back to back doubles making the score 3-0. Jay followed with a single to score making it 4-0. Carlos Beltran stepped in and jacked a two-run shot to left and made it a 6-0 game.

Any thought that San Francisco would roll over were dashed in the bottom of the fourth when the Giants put together five hits for four runs, making it 6-4 and sending the home crowd into a frenzy and Cardinals starter Lance Lynn to the shower.

Right handed flame thrower Joe Kelly ended the threat with one pitch getting a fielder’s choice to end the inning.

Bullpens from both sides put the brakes on the hitting frenzy with the Cardinals trio of Mujica, Boggs and Motte working the 7th, 8th and 9th innings to close the door on the Giants.

Game 2 gets underway Monday night at 7 in San Francisco.
