After 4th-inning struggles, Lynn insists he is not fatigued

(BaseballStL) – Four times in six post season games Lance Lynn has been called to throw out of the bullpen for the Cardinals.

After a five game series against Washington and the starting rotation set to begin with Game 2 of the NLCS it was Lance Lynn who was called on again to make the Game 1 start.

Lynn was strong out of the gate, mowing down the Giants hitters for the first three innings.

“I was able to throw the ball where I wanted to and throw a lot of strikes and get a lot of quick outs,” said Lynn.

The problems started in the fourth when the Cardinals had run up a 6-0 lead. Giants’ hitters put together a string of hits resulting in four runs.

Lynn insists that he wasn’t tired. He told our Brian Feldman after the game that the Giants just started taking better swings.

Cards catcher Yadier Molina agreed.

“They have a good team, they make adjustments and start swinging the bat better,” Molina said after the game.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny says Lynn started getting the ball up in the zone in the fourth.

“He was getting underneath a little bit which has always been a caution. Usually he can correct that once the ball starts elevating it is tough to keep on the plate. It happened fast and he just couldn’t recover,” said Cardinals manager Mike Matheny.

The Cardinals skipper is not worried about his young starter/reliever.

“To me he is as tough as anybody we have between the ears and he will make his adjustments and he will be ready to pitch when he gets a chance again,” said Matheny.
