CHICAGO (AP) -- A suburban Chicago woman has been charged with stealing more than $200,000 from her 98-year-old grandmother.

Cook County prosecutors say 43-year-old Jennifer Curtis of Palatine is charged with forgery and senior financial exploitation. A judge on Thursday ordered her held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Authorities say Curtis held her grandmother’s power of attorney from October 2005 to July 2011. During that time, she allegedly wrote checks, made electronic payments, and forged wire transfers from her grandmother’s financial accounts to pay for her own credit cards, loans, vacations and personal use.

Prosecutors claim Curtis intercepted bank and credit card statements sent to the grandmother’s Indian Head Park home so she wouldn’t see the withdrawals. Suspicious relatives informed police of Curtis’ actions.

It wasn’t immediately known if Curtis has legal counsel.
