Washington woman finds bomb in her car's fuel tank door

AUBURN, Washington -- Police on Wednesday afternoon isolated a car parked at the gas pumps at Auburn's Fred Meyer store after the driver found an incendiary device inside her car's fuel door.

According to Auburn police, the driver made the discovery when she pulled into the store's gas station along Auburn Way North around 2:30 p.m. to fill up her tank. When she opened up her fuel door, police said she found something wrapped up with a fuse sticking out.

She immediately became alarmed and called police,

Auburn Fire said the Federal Way bomb squad arrived at the scene and found some kind of black powder inside the fuel door. They were able to neutralize the device and render it harmless at the scene.

The motorist was not harmed.

Police said they do not believe the device was planted randomly. They were following several leads and looking at potential suspects. No one has been arrested.

The Fred Meyer gas station was closed during police investigation; it has since reopened.
