MANCHESTER, Mo. (KMOV) – Police said even more teenage girls continue to step forward and say they were victims of 19-year-old St. Louis County man accused of raping a 14-year-old girl at a local park.
Police said Joshua D. Witkowski, of Winchester, is charged with felony sexual assault after he allegedly brought the victim to a secluded area in a Manchester neighborhood park and raped her.
Now more than two dozen girls say they were attacked.
Police said they believe the number of victims continue to rise.
Authorities said a lot of the time Witkowski will befriend the victims at West County parks or on Facebook.
Rape counselors said teenage girls are especially vulnerable because teens develop relationships faster than adults.
”A lot of the communications is through text messages and I think that develops for a lot of adolescents a false sense of security, a feeling that they know the perpetrator more than they do or the person that turns out to be the perpetrator more than they actually do,” said Cindy Malott, YWCA Crisis Intervention Supervisor.
Anyone who believes they have been victims of Witkowski is asked to contact the Manchester Police Department at (636) 227-1410.
