Pinkel: Berkstresser has to get better

(Missouri Football App) – Tiger fans calling for Corbin Berkstresser to take the reins of the offense got their wish Saturday, but it came at a high cost in an injury to starting quarterback James Franklin.

Franklin sprained his knee on a nifty 23-yard run early in the game and spent the back half of the game in street clothes watching from the sidelines.

Corbin Berkstresser got the call to replace Franklin. Despite having the Vandy defense in his face and on his back for most of the game he did manage two scoring drives. "It's a difficult situation to be in. He's a young player. It's not easy. He'll learn from it and get better,” said head coach Gary Pinkel. Berkstresser finished the night 9-30 for 189 yards and one touchdown.

"Throwing a redshirt freshman out there is tough. He did some good things and certainly has to improve," said Pinkel
