A Washington University graduate student is brutally attacked at her off campus apartment, and now police need are asking you to help them find who did it.
It happened Monday in a complex in the 700 block of Syracuse Avenue, about a block off the Delmar Loop.
University City police tell News-4 that a woman who lives in the building was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The Wash U grad student was found on the floor -- beaten and left for dead -- in the building's basement laundry room.
A maintenance worker found her around noon on Monday and called for help. Now, students living at the apartment have the option to move if they don't feel safe.
The building is owned and operated by Quadrangle Housing, which is a branch of the university. Wash U and housing staff are directly contacting other students, and they've issued a crime alert to students living in neighborhoods surrounding campus. The alert, posted on the apartment's front door, lists the crime, tips to stay safe and a plea for people to call in suspicious persons and activity.
The university is also offering counseling and support for others in the building.
Both U City police and Wash U campus police tell News-4 that they are stepping up patrols in the area.
Anyone with information about this crime is urged to call Crime stoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
