(KMOV) -- A Washington University student is in critical condition after she was attacked and found left for dead at her off-campus apartment in University City on Monday.
The graduate student was beaten while she was doing her laundry in the basement of her apartment in the 700 block of Syracuse.
A maintenance worker found the woman around noon on Monday.
The buidling is owned and operated by Quadrangle Housing which is a branch of the university.
Wash U. and housing staff are contacting other students living in and near the building to warn them. They have also issued a crime alert to students living in neighborhoods near the campus.
The university is also offering counseling and support for others in the building and staff has offered to help students move to another residence if they feel unsafe.
Both U. City police and Washington University campus police say they are stepping up patrols in the area.
