There will be another push for a sales tax increase to fund Metro. The St. Louis County Council voted today to put the measure on the April ballot. Supporters and opponents addressed the Council before the vote. The supporters spoke of transportation to jobs, doctors' appointments, and schools for the many residents who can't afford their own car. Detractors spoke of Metro's past waste. (Its been under new management for a while now) One Council member noted how Metro historically slighted service to South County and West County. He said he doubted if it passes, that those areas of the county will see increases in service. Metro head Bob Baer acknowledged that perception would warrant attention. Let the campaigning begin.
