KMOV- The widow of a fallen St. Louis firefighter has dedicated her life to keeping her husband’s name alive.
A little more than a year ago, Leonard Riggins was killed by a car-jacker. On Sunday night, Darnita Riggins hosted a fundraiser in his honor to raise money for the needy.
One of Leonard Riggins' biggest passions was giving back.
For the past 20 years, the Riggins’ promised eachother that every Christmas season, they'd give to a family that was less fortunate than they were.
Now that he's gone, Mrs. Riggins does not want that tradition to end. She decided instead of helping one family, her goal would be to help as many as she can.
Sunday night's event was held at the Dick Weber Bowling Alley in Florissant. Everyone who showed up was asked to bring two canned goods with them, and all donated food went to Operation Food Search. Everyone who donated also got to bowl for free.
524 pounds of food was collected at the event.
