Former St. George police chief charged with sex crimes

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A former police chief in a St. Louis County community is charged with sex crimes involving a child.

Scott Uhrig is the former police chief in St. George and was also a police officer in Arnold.  He is now facing charges of statutory sodomy and sexual misconduct involving a child under the age of 15.

He was arrested in Jefferson County on December 7th, but according to court records the crime happened back in July 2008.

Uhrig is no stranger to controversy.  Back in 2007 when he was chief in St. George, one of his officers was caught on tape threatening a motorist.  That motorist posted the video on YouTube.  Uhrig's past was brought to light after that incident.

Back in 2000, he was accused of propositioning a 17 year old girl during a traffic stop while working as a police officer in Arnold, Missouri.

Uhrig says he was never charged with a crime and he retired from the Arnold Police Department with full honors in 2004.

For now, Scott Uhrig is out on $10,000 bond.
