KMOV - The Salvation Army claims a thief is targetting their red kettle drive.
Earlier this week, someone stole three donation kettles in Crestwood and Richmond Heights.
All three cases are very similar. A man distracts the bell ringer, then grabs the entire kettle, including the stand and sign, which weighs about 40 pounds.
The Salvation Army not sure exactly how much was taken, but they say a typical kettle usual collects about $200 a day.
Police are working with a vague description, as there are no surveillance photos available yet.
In the meantime, the Salvation Army has put other bell ringers on alert, which seems to have worked for the moment. There were two other attempts this week, but the bell ringers didn't fall for the distraction.
