ALTON - The city's multi-department Nuisance Abatement Task Force responded Wednesday to neighbors' suspicions about a drug house, arresting one man and confiscating cocaine and $6,500.
Alton Police Chief David Hayes said detectives would seek a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance today against the 43-year-old man who lives at the house, in the 1800 block of Crest Drive.
Police obtained a search warrant after the task force visited the home.
"They recovered 59 grams of cocaine (total) from multiple rooms in the house," Hayes said. He said neighbors had contacted police after becoming suspicious of seeing "a lot of activity there."
Members of the task force sometimes visit a dozen properties in one day each month suspected of having building code violations or drug activity. The task force includes police, animal control officers and building inspectors.
