(KMOV)-- A Southeast Missouri State University student from Wildwood is recovering from a beating he took near campus.

Blake Carlton, 21, said he was sleeping on a friend's couch in a house off the campus when some football players stormed into the home early Sunday morning.

"Saw two of the guys and then vague memory of them throwing me, putting me on the table and me just waking up in the bathroom with a pool of blood coming out of my mouth," he told News 4.

Blake is afraid to go to class because one of the alleged attackers is in his class.

Blake’s mother is concerned that her son may be facing intimidation and even pressure not to pursue charges against any football players.

"There were two witnesses that drove by the scene and they noticed there were 15 to 20 individuals in the front yard entering and leaving the house all in SEMO football sweat gear with their numbers on the front of their sweatshirts," she said.

Why did this attack happen? No one is saying anything, although rumors on campus suggest Carlton was a mistaken target.

Despite the fact that Blake Carlton can identify his attackers, it's been three days and still no arrests. Police in Cape Girardeau called News 4 to say they are not taking this lightly and they are investigating.

News 4 will keep following to see what their investigation turns up.
