Mizzou women's basketball stars arrested for roughing up male cheerleader

COLUMBIA — Two Missouri women's basketball players who were arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of third-degree assault say they were attempting to stop a fight, according to a Columbia Police report.

Amanda Hanneman and Jessra Johnson, Missouri's two leading scorers, told police that when an argument between a male Missouri cheerleader and his female roommate became physical, they decided to step in. The pair were at the residence at 36 N. Cedar Lake Drive with a group who had gone there after socializing at a Columbia bar. When MU cheerleader Justin Short, who had not been out with the group, complained that the group was being too loud, an argument ensued, according to Columbia Police Department Spokeswoman Jessie Haden
