St. Louis gets municipal excellence award

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- St. Louis is one of eight cities being honored with the Award for Municipal Excellence from the National League of Cities.

Mayor Francis Slay and other city officials accepted the award during a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at City Hall.

St. Louis is the silver award winner in the category for cities with populations of 150,001 to 500,000. The city is being honored for the St. Louis Alliance for Homeownership Preservation, which was formed in response to increased foreclosures in the city.

City officials say the alliance saved 428 homes from foreclosure in its first year.
