ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- A 1-year-old boy was shot by his 7-year-old sister Saturday afternoon in what police are calling an "accidental shooting."
St. Louis police spokeswoman Erica Van Ross said the boy was playing with his sister in the back bedroom of a home in the 4300 block of College Avenue when the gun discharged around 2:40 p.m.
The children's parents and several other adults were in the living room of the home when they heard the gunshot, Van Ross said.
Police said the injured child was shot in the chest. He was taken by his mother to a St. Louis hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
The gun, which was stored in a backpack in the bedroom, belonged to the children's 18-year-old uncle, police said.
On Monday, investigators presented their case to the Circuit Attorney's Office and warrants were refused. Charges remain unfiled in this case.
