Coach Mike Anderson saluted the fans as he received a standing ovation when it was announced that it is Anderson's 50th birthday today. He couldn't ask for a better gift as Missouri rolls over Fairleigh Dickinson 87-36. The Tigers didn't have their best first half of the season by any means, but they really made up for it coming out of the lockeroom and getting a 20-0 run to start the second half. Mizzou is averaging this season a 37.8 ppg margin of victory at home this season and nearly doubled that margin with tonight's victory.
The air ball on a free throw attempt by Terence Grier with 4 minutes left in the game really summed up the Knight's night: horrific. The "air ball" chant could be heard quite a bit coming from the Mizzou faithful. To say the Knights had a rough game would be an understatement. It took them 9 minutes to score a basket in the second half. They shot 21 percent from the field, had 26 turnovers and all together just looked like a mess. It's going to be a long flight back to New Jersey.
Kim English was the lead scorer for the Tigers with 20 points, including 4, 3-pointers. Freshman John Underwood led the Tigers in rebounds with 7. Mizzou finished shooting 47 percent from the field with 9 blocks, 18 steals and 14 turnovers. Every player got into the game tonight which will only help the team in the long run. Coach Anderson extends his non-conference home win streak to 35 and the team's home win streak is now 24. With finals this week the Tigers don't play again until next Saturday, Dec. 19 at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
