Missouri jobless rate inches to 9.5 percent

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri's unemployment rate rose slightly last month as nonfarm payrolls lost 3,600 jobs.

The Department of Economic Development says November's seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 9.5 percent, up three-tenths of a percentage point from October.

Nationally, the unemployment rate for November was 10 percent.

Friday's report says Missouri lost about 2,600 retail jobs and 2,000 in manufacturing last month. The losses were partly offset by gains in construction and a sector called health care and social assistance.

Missouri retailers reported a smaller amount of seasonal hiring than in previous Novembers.
