The powerful winds overnight and this morning did a number on the roof of the Center for Creative Learning on Old State Road in Ellisville. School employees discovered the damage before classes began this morning. Winds pulled up sections of the roof near the front of the school.
It was too windy to make repairs today, so the Rockwood School District plans to have crews back at work on Thursday. If the repairs are complete, classes may resume as soon as Friday.
Gifted students in kindergarten, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades are sent to special classes at The Center for Creative Learning once a week. This morning, students were kept at their regular schools.
The district did not have an estimate on what it will cost to repair the roof damage, but expects insurance will cover the costs.
There was no damage inside the school building.
