ST. LOUIS (AP) -- High winds caused thousands of people to be without power in parts of Missouri and Illinois, but utilities have made progress restoring them.
St. Louis-based Ameren said that 1,128 residential and business customers in Missouri were without power late Wednesday afternoon. That's down from 10,100 Wednesday morning.
Another 1,510 of Ameren's customers in Illinois are without electricity, down from 7,200 Wednesday morning.
The Southeast Missourian reported that Citizens Electric Cooperative had restored power to 1,000 of its customers in the Altenburg/Fruitland district by noon.
Kansas City Power & Light reported only scattered power outages in its service areas in northwest Missouri.
