Each week I talk with numerous police departments and pour through crime reports looking for outbreaks of crime to profile in my weekly Neighborhood Crime Alert story. Vandalism is something that happens around the year, but there are unique types of vandalism that happen during certain times of the year. In October thieves are busy stealing pumpkins from front porches. They're usually found smashed and in the middle of the street. And in December the vandalism targets Christmas decorations. But this year the Grinch has arrived early and been busy.
Police in Overland are reporting three incidents of vandalism recently. At one house, thieves stole candy canes. If that wasn't bad enough, at another house thieves stole two reindeer, four soldiers and even Mrs. Claus. But the biggest outrage was the theft of an 8 foot, inflatable Homer Simpson, dressed as Santa Claus.
If you know anything about these crimes, you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
