(KMOV) -- Police in St. Louis are searching for one of two suspects in an officer involved shooting.

It happened in the 5500 block of Era around 6:00 a.m. on Friday.

Investigators brought in several police officers to investigate the area of the crime because the crime scene was so large.

On Friday morning officers spotted two men in a stolen vehicle. They turned on their sirens and the suspects drove off and crashed into a house at Floy and Emma.

One suspect got away while police chased another suspect on foot.

The suspect took officers on a run through backyards, alleys and over fences. Police say at one point the suspect pointed a gun at officers and that is when the officers fired shots.

Police later found that suspect hiding in a garage on 5500 block of Era. He had been shot and had wounds to shoulder and groin. He is currently listed in stable condition.

Police were persuing the suspects vehicle from an attempted robbery at 8th and Pine in downtown St. Louis.

Back at the house on Floy, officers searched the stolen vehicle and found weapons.

There were a couple of children inside the house at the time of the crash. They were not injured.

As part of standard procedure, both officers have been placed on administrative leave.
