Belleville school district adding adult bus monitors after fight
By Lakisha Jackson
(KMOV)-- It's hard to forget the video of a Belleville West student getting pummeled on a school bus.
The district is adding adult bus monitors to make sure something like this never happens again.
It's unclear as of yet, how many there will be but the plan is to train all teachers aids for the job.
The superintendent of Belleville District 201 said they'll help train the aid with federal grant money. Each one of them will sit through training along with bus company supervisors and school administrators. During the training instructors will go over building relationships, behavior, bullying and sexual harassment prevention and intervention.
Superintendent Dr. Greg Moats told News 4 this is the next step in making sure the community moves forward.
The monitors will begin riding the buses after the new year.
All of the students News 4 spoke with are in favor of the change. They were also quick to add, it is up to them to make sure the ride to and from school goes as smoothly as possible.
