Maine South trounces Marist 41-17

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Matt Perez set a state championship game record with 316 yards and scored five touchdowns to help Maine South win its second straight Illinois High School Association Class 8A title with a 41-17 victory over Marist Saturday night at Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

The previous mark was a 308-yard effort by Seneca

s Paul Bauer in the Class 2A title game in 1990. The previous best rushing game in an 8A title game was when Maine South's Charlie Goro ran for 164 yards last year.

The Hawks (14-0) own a 28-game winning streak and have four state titles.

For Marist (11-3) quarterback Mike Perish threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times.
